The Chess Problem
This picture is also on page 61 of the German edition. The picture in the German edition shows a different chess problem! Also note the little chinese character in the lower left corner. It reads "zhong" and means "end". This character indicates, that it is the last page of a book. It stands in the lower left corner because old chinese books were written from top right to bottom left. The character is also missing in the German edition picture. "Chess" means here the chinese game of "weiqi" known to us as by it's japanese name "Go". Another chinese "Chess" game is called "xiangqi".
